It’s been several months since my program with Karen ended, and every time I attempted to write a testimonial between then and now, I could only seem to find one word: wow! I needed that time to begin to wrap my mind around how deeply and profoundly my core person changed (and continues to grow) since my initial consultation.
I approached Karen after struggling with what I was convinced was a binge eating disorder, attributing it to the depression and anxiety that had bogged me down for most of my adolescent and adult life. I had been stuck in a vicious war with my weight—experimenting with a repertoire of diet regimens and dragging my out-of-shape self to the gym until my self-sabotaging tendencies regained control, unleashing a whole new cycle of binging and self-loathing. But at our first meeting, Karen suggested that my problem may actually lie in blood sugar swings and insufficient protein, not a destiny to overindulge. It’s amazing what subsequent epiphanies are possible when you realize for the first time that something you’ve perpetually punished yourself for was never really your fault! So when Karen gently prodded me to evaluate the very words I was using to describe my condition and to ask myself how I came to treat my body with such disdain and cruelty, I recognized immediately that my aim must be to heal my mind, body, and spirit—and not to merely lose a few pounds.
I was shocked when Karen also detected my dairy intolerance on Day 1. As a vegetarian, I relied heavily on milk, cheese, and yogurt for protein and could not imagine a reason why I shouldn’t be consuming them. Sure enough, she was right! A few weeks later, a biofeedback scan revealed significant gluten toxicity in my system, and a follow-up elimination diet confirmed I was intolerant to this as well. It still amazes me how I was able to give up two major food categories in a period of less than 30 days without flinching. But with Karen cheering me on like a longtime friend, I willingly accepted that this was what my body needed to heal, and I never looked back.
Through teaching me to treat myself with respect and kindness, to choose foods that nourished me physically and spiritually, and to eliminate foods that caused me unnecessary suffering, Karen’s customized program far exceeded my expectations. I no longer consider my weight a battle to be won, nor my appetite a monster to be controlled. The depression, anxiety, bloating, acne, fatigue, and insomnia that had plagued me have vanished. My mind is clear and active, and physical movement no longer feels like a chore. I was able to come off the synthetic medications I hated being on without any symptoms returning. I actually prefer fresh, wholesome, natural foods over the processed and sugary foods I once craved. And best of all, I can honestly say that I love and approve of myself and have finally, as Karen puts it, “stepped into my power.”
Karen’s strengths are so many! From her knowledge of nutritional properties to her use of integrative holistic therapies, and from her compassionate interpersonal demeanor to her witty sense of humor, she is a gifted healer/counselor who is genuinely committed not to “fixing” her clients, but to nurturing and guiding them along a healthier, more fulfilling path.
Thank you, Karen! Your work is invaluable.

I initially came to Karen because I was pre-diabetic. With Karen's help I have been
able to see how my moods and feelings affect my eating habits. Karen never once
criticized or degraded me when I “messed up.” Instead, she helped me to
understand why I ate what I ate.
After I completed my sessions with Karen, I had a follow appointment with my doctor
who was amazed at how much weight I lost (35 pounds and counting) and my blood
sugar levels are back within the normal range again.

During the three months of the program, I lost 25 pounds and gained an entirely
new perspective on food. With Karen's help, I started on a journey to examine
habits that don't serve me well and replace them with healthier choices. Karen's
gentle guidance creates an atmosphere that is safe for self-examination and growth.

After just my first session with Karen, it became very clear to me that she is not only highly knowledgeable in the field of holistic nutrition but also insightful, sensitive, compassionate and deeply committed to the well-being of her clients. Karen taught me about whole foods and their ability to nurture and heal. But more importantly, she helped me face the real reasons behind why I was eating compulsively and then showed me a better, healthier way. With every small step forward, I am reminded of how grateful I am to have met this inspiring teacher along my personal journey.

I
am a whole new me! And I barely remember the person I was
before I started the program.
I began the program with the intention of losing 10 lbs and
I ended the program with so much more. I absolutely lost the
weight. I cannot tell you the numbers, but I can tell you
that I dropped a size. The fact that I cannot tell you the
numbers is because I finally learned that they just do not
matter. I finally stopped stepping on the scale because I
have finally learned to step into my body.
This program helped me connect my body, mind and spirit. It
made me aware that all of my health issues, both physical
and emotional, were related to the fact that I had become
disconnected from my body. Today, I would not be able to,
for all of the money in the world, speak or think negatively
about my body. That this shift in thought process occurred
over a 3-month period, after engaging in this negative behavior
for 37 years, is simply amazing. No one before has been able
to deliver to me this simple message. Once I was able to receive
the message, everything else fell into place. By becoming
aware of my body, by being kind to it, by speaking nicely
to it, by treating it with love, I was able to begin the healing
process, both physically and emotionally.
Not only have I lost weight, but I stopped smoking cigarettes.
This benefit was not even contemplated by me at the beginning
of the program. But it fell right into place and in line with
the work that we were doing. Once I became reunited with my
body, and learned to love all of me, inside and out, the thought
of poisoning my body, on purpose, no longer was in alignment
with who I had become as a result of this program.
I was able to gain all that I did from this program because
of the single, most important aspect of working with Karen.
She creates a safe place for healing. Never, ever was there
one moment of judgment. I could walk in there and say I drank
a pot of coffee, consumed a dozen Krispy Kremes, followed
by a liter of gin, during which I smoked 3 packs of cigarettes
and she would not have judged me. Sorry, that I have to quote
Dr. Phil here, but the one correct thing he says is, "You
cannot change what you do not acknowledge." If you can't acknowledge
it because you feel shame then you can never heal. Karen's
most valuable quality is that she knows this. She is a true
healer in the sense that she at all times works with kindness,
love, compassion, and truth.
In sum, what I learned during this 3-month program was invaluable
and worth every single penny! I know it will continue to provide
me with new and exciting rewards today, tomorrow, and in the
future.

I just can’t express enough how one person such as Karen can
make a woman feel. My life has been a roller coaster with
a lot of highs and lows. Never have I felt as balanced as
I do now. The roller coaster journey has come to an end with
the right food choices that Karen has suggested for me.
I have taken care of so many people in my life time now I
am glad that I began taking care of my self. My mind and spirit
have lifted so much in less than one year than it ever had
in a whole life time.
I have been to a psychiatrist, where I talked of having no
self esteem or self worth, and all he could say that I was
at a cross roads in life. I had one doctor put me on diet
pills when I was over weight, which only led to hospitalization
and further reduced my self esteem. Karen as made my mind
body and soul connect in so many different ways, with the
healthier food choices and balancing me out to an even level.
I have erased so many negative feelings. I am not second-guessing
any more and I feel like a whole-hearted woman now. My life
is no longer incomplete.
What a difference food can make you feel. The children that
I take care of in my business are even eating healthier now.
My energy level is even better with the smart choices that
I am making. And I have lost 42 pounds!
Karen is all about nurturing and she makes you feel nurtured
in so many different ways.
Karen is kind and compassionate; she will even take time to
call you when you are going through some tough times. She
is definitely in tune with people and the universe.
Here’s to Karen thumbs up. What a beautiful lady in so many
ways. Thank you for helping me heal from within.

Before
I started Intuit Nutrition, I had tried Weight Watchers, Jenny
Craig, and the Atkin’s diet to tame my bingeing and
constant preoccupation with feeding my anguish. I had seen
a behavioral therapist and psychiatrist and tried to control
my “uncontrollable” eating, depression, and anxiety
with a series of mediocre medications. No one or drug was
able to “cure” me.
When
I started the program I had this nasty, shameful habit of
eating pretzels -- dipped in mayonnaise — by the bagful.
When talking to people, I would think about my next binge
or how could I sneak over to the snack table. When Karen described
my life as a “twisted, dry pretzel,” I truly understood
what it meant to be what you eat.
Over
the next few months, Karen helped me insert new habits and
new information into my old repertoire, never insisting that
I rigidly follow a new “diet,” never judging me
by what I ate or didn’t eat. Without realizing it, my
whole attitude about food had changed; my approach to nourishing
my body and soul was completely different.
Now,
8 months later, my stomach isn’t bloated, my skin is
clearer, I can judge when food will make me feel bad or feel
good, I have reconnected with my spirituality and sense of
balance, I walk with confidence, I love to cook, I nurture
myself and my relationships, my life is fun. Simply put, I
am free from what I thought would always dominate my life
– my preoccupation with getting more food.
I
can’t say Karen “cured” me, because my life
is a process not a destination. I will say that Karen has
taught me how to unlock my shackles in a way that I never
thought possible. Thank you, Karen!!!

I had seen Karen present at two seminars, (and) I was impressed
with her knowledge … and her vital interest in sharing
what she believed were core issues for health and diet. As
I was faced with some challenging health issues, I considered
reading information and books she suggested, changing my diet,
and attending some other workshops she presented. The more
I thought about it, the more I realized that I had been trying
to solve these issues on my own for many years and had not
accomplished my goals. I finally decided that I deserved to
have some personal help to begin to change how I ate, what
I ate, and perhaps learn to make healthy choices that would
not only improve my health but improve my overall life style.
(As a distance client,) the bimonthly phone counseling sessions
were augmented with e mail exchanges, planning and follow-up
worksheets, pertinent articles, recipes, tapes, cooking supplies
and implements. The results have been enormous and have surpassed
my expectations. I have eliminated the need for fiber laxatives
by following suggested guidelines for more nutritional foods
and beverages. I have learned what types of foods to cook
and what foods to avoid for maintaining a healthy weight and
eliminate reflux. Finally I have learned to be mindful that
our entire well being, our presentation of our selves to others
begins with having the confidence to change and courage to
accept help from others. Karen was supportive, encouraging,
and willing to work at my pace to help me bring about change.
She has a broad knowledge base and I feel she tailored our
discussions to meet my individual needs. She also has the
spirit and talent to bring out the best in people to help
them meet their goals.

My
journey with Karen was enlightening, arduous at times, but
most of all, fun. I looked forward to our biweekly sessions
because they always seemed to open up another door or window
into my inner self. I learned more about me in the 6 months
spent with Karen than I have in my whole lifetime. I learned
to recognize what my body needed to relax, to alleviate pain,
to work hard and to have fun. Karen showed me how to choose
healthy foods, how to cook them and how to really enjoy them.
She taught me to recognize that eating certain foods affected
me in a negative way (i.e. pain) and which foods would help
me in a positive way (i.e. more energy). Most importantly,
Karen showed me how to get my mind and body working as ‘one,’
for the benefit of ‘me.’

"I
was hypoglycemic and had basically given up hope of beating
my total addiction to sugar
. Since I had worked w/ a
nutritionist a few years ago, I thought I knew about nutrition
and diet, but I learned a lot working with Karen and learned
about the choices available to me that I never could have
made on my own.
She treated me as a whole person, looking at every aspect.
She encouraged me and worked out certain things with me that
I was resisting. I really liked how she integrated different
practices and theories. The program was also very individualized
and addressed my special needs. I am very happy that I choose
to work with Karen."

"Through my meetings w/ Karen, which I
greatly miss, I was able to transcend myself from emotionally,
psychologically unstable and unhealthy “places,”
and incorporate alternative and beneficial ways of cultivating
myself.
Through
consciousness in how I treat my body and what I do to nourish
it, I have higher awareness levels and I act more kindly to
myself, even when I am less capable of being the best me—no
one is 100% all the time—I am ultimately more patient,
thoughtful and forgiving. Thank you for helping me in living
a healthier life!"

"While working w/ Karen, I have become
more aware of my food choices and their affects on me. I am
now choosing to eat in ways that better serve my body and
spirit. For the first time, I learned how to eat for life,
not diet."

"Not only did Karen broaden my notions
of how food affects aspects of my life, she had me look at
my life itself. (Karen’s) program was not just about
oral feeding. She made me think about how to nourish myself
spiritually and creatively so that my WHOLE self is well."

"Before working with Karen I felt sluggish
and worn down. By making changes to my diet I was able to
increase my energy level. I didnt feel tired anymore.
It surprised me how something so simple as eating more fish
and vegetables made me feel more energetic, more creative
and even more enthusiastic about my work."

Since
beginning my sessions with Karen, I have watched my sugar
cravings disappear and my moods even out. I have become more
confident about introducing certain foods into my diet which
help me to stay grounded. Karen is a sensitive and insightful
person and her work with nutrition deals with more than just
food; she deals with the whole person and where they need
healing. Karen made a big and profound shift easy and gentle
by introducing small changes over a long period of time. By
the end, I found that I was eating completely differently
and a trip to the grocery store or the kitchen was no longer
a panic stricken task filled with myths and fears as to what
to eat.

For
the last 15 years, I have been addicted to coffee. Now I have
been coffee free for the last six months
.due to my new
understanding of nutrition and health via Karen. Put simply,
she whipped my brain and taste buds in shape! I am eating
better than ever before, feeling more energized, working
out at the gym and the whole nine yards. Soon I will be
"belly-less." Watch out six-packers!
